Joff Winterhart is an illustrator, writer, occasional film-maker/animator, drummer, songwriter, t-shirt maker, rock’n'roll fan and dog enthusiast. He has written and drawn two graphic novels; Days of the Bagnold Summer, which was shortlisted for the Costa best novel award in 2012; and Driving Short Distances, 2017. He also made the animated film Violet and Turquoise, which won the Cymru BAFTA for best animation in 2003. He also plays drums / writes songs in the long-standing band Bucky, thinks about getting a new dog, and tries to start as many new bands as he can.

From a review of Driving Short Distances: "Masterpiece is an overused word in reviews and ordinarily I avoid it .. In this case, however, it is the only one that will do. Winterhart has delivered a perfect book"  Rachel Cooke, The Guardian
