Francesca and Pete share a love of natural colour and painting at eARTh studios in Ilfracombe. Their exploration of local earth pigments (including Bideford Black) and plant dyes through painting, installation and workshops has earned them a local, national and international reputation in the field of environmental art. Their artwork has been exhibited and sold throughout the Southwest and as far afield as South Korea.

Francesca and Pete will be opening their eARTh studios in Hele from Friday 22nd until Sunday 24th September and Friday 29th September until Sunday 1st October. Visit the eARTh website for more information.


Bring and share lunch and dyeing workshop.

Natural dyes became the sole focus of Francesca’s master research degree in the Art & Environment at Falmouth University 2010- 2012. since then she has furthered her practice by leading workshops on local dyes and earth pigments in N.Devon. During this dye workshop participants will learn dying techniques to extract colour from plants, including Ox – Tongue Ferns, dock leaves & roots, Ivy, walnut, Valerian & onion skins. Using techniques of immersion dyes, solar dyes, compost dyes and heat source dyes. At the end of the class participants will be able to take home their own dyed silk pieces.
